Bald Head Island

We just got back from our annual boat trip to Bald Head Island!!!! It is a very nice relaxing vacation. The best thing about Bald Head is there are NO CARS! The only transportation around the island is by golf-cart, bicycle, or a good pair of walking shoes! You leave your car at Southport and take a ferry to the island! How cool is that?!
We went with a group of people in the SeaRay club and stayed on the boat. If you don't have a boat there are many houses, cottages, and a bed and breakfast for you to rent. There are no highrise condos or hotels!!! Can you believe a beach comminity without a "Wings" store? However, there is a shopping area with many specialty shops, a grocery store, ice-cream parlor, and a hardware store. There is an award winning golf course, two clubs with a pool, each with a restaraunt. You can also dine at an inside/outside eatery called "Ebb -n- Flos" where there is nightly entertainment.
While we were there it was "Pirates" weekend. "Old Baldy", the light house, is a main attraction. There were games and fun activities for kids and adults. In the marina the "pirate ship" arrived complete with cannons and ole scallywags!!!!
The island had a sea turtle habitate where they rescue and take care of injured turtles. If you enjoy kayakking there's take too!
Not everyone there was from North Carolina...we met many people from all along the east coast.
So if you have the time and want a stress free relaxing vacation...GO TO BALDHEAD ISLAND!!!!!
